Crystals for Travel
By Jeannie Smith, BCTMB, CCH, MMP, CPLC, TAM
Summer is here and also vacation season, so in this interview with crystal expert Brana Mijatovic, PhD., we will talk about crystals that will most benefit you while on the road or in the sky. Brana has spent many years of working with crystals and experimenting with them. She bridges the science behind why crystals have an effect on the human energy field and she also travels internationally quite frequently.
Brana says, vacations are coming and if you are traveling for a long time you want to enjoy your family and your vacation instead of recovering from the trip, because by the time you recover from traveling, it’s time to go home again. So you want to be in a good mood so you can enjoy your trip.
When flying, dealing with time changes, flight changes, connecting flights, emfs, etc., there are specific crystals that you can carry or wear that can help you have a better experience.
Even if you are new to crystals, all of these crystals are safe to use in the way described. Also, even if you don’t feel the energy of crystals, you may think “well I’ve held this stone, and I don’t feel anything” or if you don’t believe that crystals can help you try this and see you how feel.
Start with something that is going to maintain humour in your own body system. Two crystals that are really phenomenal for that are flourite and bloodstone. Bloodstone is a type of green jasper with red dots. It’s easy to slip a crystal in your pocket or purse. The next stone is carnelian. Carnelian is phenomenal for strengthening the immune system. Carnelian delivers a constant stream of energy while you are traveling, not only when you arrive but also while you are traveling, especially when you have connecting flights where you are trying to change planes. Also, citrine.
You can layer all of these stones, so the best way to use them would be to wear them as a necklace, depending on your style, this may work for you. The important thing to understand when you go through security, they will allow you to wear a necklace, but not anything in your pockets. For people that just want to have a tumbled stone, just make sure to put it in your purse or in your luggage before you go through check points. And then put the crystal back in your pocket later, because the crystals have to be close to you in your biofield to help you. If you just have a crystal in your purse, it’s not going to have an effect on you.
How exactly does a crystal work in your pocket rather than a bag or your overhead luggage? Crystals have an effect on the human energy field because their energy field has a natural vibration because of the chemical composition of the stone. There’s a lot of theory behind that, but the most important thing to remember is that nothing beats experience. Brana says that she can talk until tomorrow about the science behind it, but personal experience is the best. If you have a crystal in your hand and you feel a certain effect in your body, that’s when you will really understand how it works. And for a lot of people this is easy and for some people it is not easy and these people are those that think that crystals don’t have an effect. Just because you don’t feel crystals on a conscious level, that does not mean that they don’t affect you. We are talking about vibrations that are measurable. There are videos produced by the U.S. Government that show how in the 1940’s clear quartz was used to make crystal radios. In fact, today, Silicon Valley is using crystals. There is one particular mine in North Carolina that was bought by Silicon Valley for the purpose of using those clear quartz crystals because of the high quality. There are crystals that are used now that are synthetic.
Another stone that you want to think about for travel is black tourmaline, which is great for grounding. Brana says that when you are spending so much time high in the sky, something happens to your body. We are used to having the connection to earth. You can use any grounding practice that involves meditation and imagination. Having something solid in your hands, on your body or in your pocket gives you that sense of grounding even more strongly and gives you that connection to the earth. Black tourmaline is very specific for that because it has pyroelectric and piezoelectric properties. It has the possibility to react to your energy in a much more obvious way and a much more dramatic way than some other stones that do not have this property. It also has far infrared output, which again is crucial for the well-being of blood cells as well as some other benefits. Black tourmaline is also used in industry as well.
The next stone for travel, Brana recommends Moqui Marbles or Boji Stones. She discovered that they dramatically help with reducing that pain that you get in your ears when the plane takes off and when you land. She noticed that one day when she was flying, she had them with her and her ears did not pop like usual at takeoff and landing. She tried this a few times and then tried flying without them in her hands, she said jokingly, “what I do for science”, she told me it was so painful that she does not travel without them.
You can also get Tiger’s Eye for flying. It gives you confidence and calmness and connects with the Solar Plexus chakra, which is traditionally what you will find when you read about tiger’s eye.
When you land at your final destination, it is important to take them off right away and place them all under running water to discharge all this energy that was in relation to your energy. Remember, we are talking about electricity-the electricity of the body and the electricity of the stones and the challenges that develop. Again, the piezoelectric ability of tourmaline not only applies to tourmaline. The best way to discharge that is with water, just like we discharge our energy by taking a shower, that is what you want to do to clear the stones. All of the stones mentioned can be placed in running water for about a minute and you should be good to go.
If traveling by car, you are not dealing with a lot of the things you are when traveling by plane. You are not dealing with large crowds or unhealthy environments, or surfaces that a lot of other people have touched. But you are possibly dealing with angry drivers, possibly your own sense of getting tired, so for driving Brana recommends carnelian and tiger’s eye, but also for increased energy, red jasper and mahogany obsidian. Those two are super helpful not only to maintain your energy, but when you are getting tired, they quickly replenish your energy like a new battery in your system. Try it and see how much it can help you. They can’t just be in your car, they need to be on you because we are talking about them interacting with your energy, not just having this magical ability to project energy into space, we are talking about how to increase your personal energy.
A note on the piezoelectric effect of clear quartz and black tourmaline. It was discovered in the 19th century but has been used mostly for science and for things, but not for people. But now with the knowledge of how our body actually is, we know how it works, and we are running on electricity and how we are affected by electromagnetic fields, then it makes much more sense to understand crystals as well as contributing to that effect on our electromagnetic fields.
Another crystal for travel – clear quartz in general to give you that clarity, because if you are getting tired, it would be the best thing to have, in addition to the other stones. Stay away from any calming crystals. Definitely stay away from amethyst. It can be very calming, not what you want to do while driving, being in a meditative state.
While you are traveling be sure to see how you are feeling at the place you are at and to look and see what kind of crystals they have in that area because even with one and the same type of stone, like amethyst, the amethyst you get in Brazil is not going to have the same kind of energies as one you get in Canada, so when you are in a particular country and you find a stone the country is famous for, get it right there at the source.
